Manage an edition

1. Sign in

  1. Open Manage.
  2. Enter the manager passcode.
  3. Use the Editions and Students tabs to switch between tasks.

Anyone with the manager passcode can manage the journal. Only share it with the teacher or a student who has permission to help.

2. Add the students

Open Students, enter a name, and select Add. Each name must be unique. An editor can only mark a post final while the selected name is still in this list.

Select Remove when a name should no longer appear in the editor. This does not delete the student's existing posts, but the student cannot mark one of those posts final again unless you add the name back.

Add all student names before editors start writing.

3. Create an edition

  1. Open Editions.
  2. Enter a monthly title, such as September 2026.
  3. Select Create.

The edition opens for writing as soon as you create it. Use a title that has not been used before.

Editors can now choose the edition from the Editor page. Keep it open until they finish writing and you finish reviewing.

4. Review the posts

Each edition card shows:

Select a post title to preview it. Managers can preview drafts and posts from open editions. Readers cannot.

Check the title, student name, images, formatting, and links. If something needs work, ask the editor to change the post and mark it final again. Managers cannot edit a student's post.

5. Export and publish

Export PDF is available when the edition has at least one final post and no drafts. It opens the print layout in a new tab, where you can print it or save it as a PDF.

Publish is available when no drafts remain. Publishing locks the edition so editors cannot make more changes. Final posts then appear on the homepage and on their article pages.

Before you publish, check that:

Fix something after publishing

Select Unpublish to reopen the edition. Its posts will stop being public while the edition is open. Editors can then change their posts and update the Final draft setting.

Check the changes, make sure no drafts remain, export a new PDF if needed, and publish again.

Troubleshooting

I can't publish the edition

At least one post is still a draft. Check the draft count and post list, then ask the editor to mark the post final.

I can't export a PDF

The edition still has a draft, or it has no final posts. Check the post statuses first.

A student can't find their name

Add the exact name under Students, then ask the student to reload the editor.

A student can't edit an existing post

Ask the student to return to the browser and device where they started the post. The post cannot be opened from another browser.
